One of the easiest and fastest ways to improve many golf courses is to change the mowing lines. Many golf courses have either lost large areas of mown grass over time, be it the greens, the green surrounds or even the fairways, or in some cases have been designed with too many cut heights. When the playing corridors are mostly free of trees and shrubs it is relatively straightforward to bring fairways, fore-greens and greens back into play as they originally were intended.
The main benefits of widening mowing lines is that it brings back strategy to the hole, makes the recovery shots around the green more interesting and allows for more interesting pin positions along the edges of the greens. This is one of the main reasons that at IVGD we often start our renovation work at golf courses with a hard look at the mowing lines.
